Esports at University Liggett School Could be a Reality

Updated: Apr 23, 2020

One high schooler is trying to make his mark on Liggett by getting the school involved in esports.

Brendan Jones, senior at University Liggett School, has been very invested in esports. He follows games such as League of Legends and Overwatch. Liggett has a program for all seniors called the Academic Research Program. This allows students to choose a topic they are passionate about, design a question, and then at the end of their senior year they will have a completed product and also present their project to many people.

The product can be anything from a business plan to a lab report or even a website. For Jones, it will hopefully be getting Liggett esports teams into the High School Esports League. The games he is going to try and get teams for are Rocket League, CS:GO, Overwatch, Super Smash Bros, and Fortnite. HSEL is currently the largest esports league for high school students in America. HSEL supports teams in 13 of the most popular games and has a goal of allowing every student the chance to compete in esports in High School.
