The Knights Have Tamed the Bulldogs

Saturday May 2nd, a day that was supposed to entail dancing and having fun with friends, turned into sheer domination from the Knights. The Knights Rocket League team took on the Westmoreland Bulldogs in hopes of improving to 3-2 on the season.

In game 1, both teams seemed pretty evenly matched, until the Knights were able to pull away late. The final score was 3-1, with senior Nicholas Cardella netting two goals and two saves, and junior Carsten Higbie securing the game with his one goal. Sophomore Leo Muller stayed involved on both ends of the pitch, tallying one assist and three saves in game 1. It was a fast paced game all around and it showed real improvement from the Knights to be able to keep up and pull out the win.

Maybe the Bulldogs’ confidence was shaken or the Knights were just able to capitalize on the momentum from game 1, but game 2 was a blowout. The Knights won handedly by a score of 6-0. The Knights won all the midfield challenges and kept the Bulldogs on a leash that would not let them out of their half often. Carsten Higbie netted a hat trick in this game, as well as one assist and two saves to finish off a dominating game. Nicholas Cardella finished game 2 with two goals and two assists, while Leo Muller got on the board with one goal, two assists, and one save.

The Knights were, once again, looking for a sweep, and in game 3 it wasn’t looking good in the beginning, but the Knights were able to pull out in front and take game 3 by a score of 4-2. Nicholas Cardella finished game 3 with two goals, two assists, and two saves, while Carsten Higbie finished with one goal, and for the first time this season, Leo Muller scored his second goal of the series in game 3.

This series showed real growth from the Knights. This is the type of series they would have lost early in the season. The Bulldogs came out fast and tried to attack first, but the Knights shut them down. All three teammates played a crucial role in all three games by staying involved on both ends every game and it was a cool sight to see: the Knights finally unleashing their full potential.

This domination is coming at the right time, too. With two games left, the Knights are standing at a 3-2 record with a +5 game differential. It would be great to win the last two, but the Knights for sure need to win at least one to make the playoffs and finish the season with a winning record.
