Wednesday March 25, the Liggett Rocket League team queued up for their tournament at 5:00, and after some technical difficulties they finally were able to compete at 8:00 against the Syosset Braves for their best of five pre-season match up.
The team started off strong with a dominating 5-2 win in Game 1. It was at that time that senior Nicholas Cardella felt like they could go for a 3-0 sweep. However, the Braves had other plans.
An unfortunate disconnect mid game by Leo Muller forced Carsten Higbie and Nicholas Cardella to play 2v3 for half the game, however they did their best to keep the Knights in it and only allowed one goal. Game 2 ended up going to the Syosset Braves in a disappointing overtime. The score was 1-1 at the time Mueller disconnected, and due to a common esports rule that says if a goal has been scored, the match could not be restarted, the Knights-Braves matchup could not be restarted.
Game 3 is when things took a turn for the worse. The Syosset Braves were able to control the whole game, constantly taking boosts and bumping the Knights. The Knights defense had no answer but the offense was able to keep it close.
The Knights were then forced with a do or die game 4. Down 2-1 in the series, they knew they had to step up. Unfortunately, they could not. It was a repeat of game 1, except this time the Knights found themselves on the losing end of the 5-2 final score.
The Knights were disappointed with the loss, but they now know what they need to work on before their season officially kicks off on April 4th. The week ahead for the Knights consisted of reviewing replays, playing ranked, and building up their chemistry.
